Considered the ultimate painting surface for oils, Belgian linen is the highest-quality substrate available for artists seeking a premier painting experience and archival quality.

True to its name, Blick Premier Linen Canvas features an extremely smooth, medium-texture, oil-primed surface that has been prepared, picked, and pumiced by hand. Each canvas is triple-primed by hand with a lead-free base to a 10 oz finished weight, using a technique perfected by the Masters.

Blick Premier Belgian Linen Canvas is back-stapled to kiln-dried, high-density 1-3/8" pine wood stretcher bars with tenon corners for added strength. Eight keys are included for minor adjustments to the frame over time. Blanket-folded square corners assure ease of restretching.

I was disappointed to learn that the "Belgian linen" was made in Mexico (as most of Blick's canvasses seem to be). I bought the 8" x 8" canvasses to used for mixed mediums work. The surface seems good, so far. The little trianges that fit into the back corners are not all smoothly finished. And the stapling job on the back could be smoother. The weight of each square is heavy...because of the 1 3/8" stretchers, I realize. This may limit me in how many I decide to use.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The quality of the surface is very nice and gives an old masters texture to the painting (especially when using Daniel Greene paints). However, the top of one 16 x 20 canvas has warped downward in the middle. I think I can cover the problem with a frame, not sure yet. This may be a one-time problem. I hope so.
