Got two new Dick Blick painting knives after Christmas and the heel (weld) and edges of both knives were rusty inside of 2 weeks. It was so disappointing as I love everything else about them. I bought two larger wedge-shaped knives to compliment the knives I have owned for over 20 years. I didn't know knives would rust since my old knives have never had a spot of rust. Instead of being one continuous piece of metal like my old knives, the DB knives are welded at the heel - that's the first place I saw rust. Then I noticed the edges were behaving as if paint was dried on, but on closer review I saw that the edges were jagged because of rust corrosion. My old knives are still as smooth as the day I bought them in the 90's.

Dick Blick - you need to go back to your manufacturer and demand a higher quality of materials for your knives. These knives should never be made of a metal that rusts.

I've had these for a few years now and I find them to be very durable. I bought a set of 5 and they're all still as good as new, after rigorous use.

I thought nickel plated would be an upgrade, but the plate began peeling almost immediately. I have been sanding it off so I can at least use the knife eventually, but it's a big bummer. I want my stainless steel- made in italy -knives I used to get. I would not buy these again.

The workmanship of the knife I purchased is exceptional, and the wood exquisite. This knife is clearly built to last. For what it is, it's remarkably inexpensive. It reminds me of similar products manufactured by Che Son: I have a palette knife by Che Son. It's been through every kind of abuse, and has lasted 20 years. Whoever in Italy, if not Che Son, Blick outsourced these knives to, they do remarkable work. This piece just goes to prove that the best artists' tools are frequently works of art themselves.
