Though it can be used with other media, the handle is short, in the traditional style of watercolor brushes. The nickel-plated, seamless brass ferrule is mounted on a short, matte black finish handle.

For a beginning, buy a size 5.... Great brushes, to the point where i prefer them over kolinsky's.
fantastic value.... Doent get much better.

My daughter wanted these small brushes to paint on feathers some nature pictures of animals. She did a great job with them, so I assume they worked great for her.

These brushes are comparable to the Windsor Series Seven brushes but at a fraction of the cost. They are easy to work with and produce a result just as good as the Series Seven. My friends have been so impressed with these brushes that I have purchased sets for quite a few of them.

I have enjoyed using this brush as well as other similar brushes from Dick Blick. When I started watercolors I was using brushes without sable, which makes it much more difficult to get good results. For the price and quality the Masterstrokes with sable are a good deal.

This brush shedded during my first use which was very frustrating as I was starting a new project. I worked with it again for a few days just to retest and found the shedding to go away. Such a relief! Now it's the best brush I have.

I have the #3 and #8 filberts and they satisy all my needs. The sable provides a really nice softness to the brush, yet since the hairs don't come out that far they provide the spring I desire. They work wonders in my portraits and allow me to be more daring than I would with a round because I know I can control the thickness of the color I am laying down with more ease and thus work faster. The brushes don't seem like the hair would last well to any lifting of color, but I can just reach for a synthetic. They are cheap but don't act that way.

These are good brushes if you're using them for water color washes I guess. For doing line work inking they are horrible, you just can't get an even line stroke in all directions, they're just not really round and you can't get a perfect round pointing on them. So if you're looking at getting cheapies to do inking with don't buy these! Should be ok for filling in blacks maybe, or just doing water color washes. Better to buy expensive brushes than to save a buck here....
