Welcome to dickblick
The full belly of the male Kolinsky hair in these brushes allows greater control and fantastic fluid capacity.
The hair is hand-shaped with extreme care, glued into seamless nickel-plated brass ferrules, and triple crimped to the Italian hardwood handle, which is finished with five coats of lacquer.

Marginally better than synthetic sable
from Bangor, ME
I have been using Princeton 4050 series synthetic sable brushes and am generally satisfied with them. But recently I bought a Blick #12 round pure Kolinsky sable costing over six times as much as the Princeton #12. Other than having a finer point, it was not immediately obvious that the Kolinsky was any better than the Princeton synthetic. After a lot of testing I concluded that the Kolinsky drops the paint somewhat more evenly across a wide stroke. Maybe the Kolinsky holds a bit more paint. Differences were harder to find in comparing #4 round Kolinsky and #4 Princeton synthetic; both had good points. My overall conclusion is the the Blick Kolinsky is somewhat better than the Princeton synthetic sable, but whether the Kolinsky is worth the extra cost is arguable. It depends on your budget. (The Blick Kolinsky is medium-priced among brushes claimed to be pure Kolinsky. I don't know whether a more expensive Kolinsky brush would be any better than the Blick Kolinsky.)
Great brush at a great price
from Raleigh, NC
The brush is formed perfectly, holds a lot of water and is a pleasure to paint with.
Very nice brush
Very nice brush. Blick's customer service is fantastic. The first brush I received had shaggy hairs, but upon calling Blick, customer service replaced it immediately with a new one that is really nice.

My first sable brush.
from Shelbyville, IN
I recently bought my first sable brushes from Blick and so far I love them! They hold water much better than the synthetic brushes I have been using. Still evaluating, but it's looking like I'll be switching to sable.

An outstanding sable for the price!
By Mountain Mama
from Boone, NC
About two years ago when I first began watercolor, I bought two of these brushes. At the time, I didn't know much about brushes so I didn't realize what a treasure I was getting. Since then, I've tried a lot of sable and synthetic brushes, and these have performed so well, I've added two more to my collection and just came back here to purchase more!Once wet, the Blick Master brushes hold an excellent point. (Like most natural hair brushes, these splay when dry but quickly repoint once they are dipped in water a few times.) The bristles have an excellent snap but also a soft, painterly feel them. They hold a juicy amount of pigment and water and have a nice, slow release.I highly recommend these brushes to many friends and students. With a little care, they should last a lifetime and are an excellent brush for the price.

Best Quality for the price
from Titusville, Fl
I use these for watercolors. They are responsive and hold their shape very well. Don't spend more for no improvement in quality.
