These unique frames are so named because the illusion they create is that your artwork is "floating" within the frame instead of being covered by it — perfect for displaying a gallery wrap canvas where no staples are visible. The canvas easily attaches to the stretcher bars from the back side with screws.
Available in a variety of popular sizes to accommodate 3/4" (1.9 cm) deep or 7/8" (2.2 cm) deep canvases, the Blick Maple Floater Frame is made from genuine American maple hardwood. Every frame has a beautiful finish with a silky smooth feel.
Note — Frames are sized by the opening, not by the outside of the molding. To determine the size of frame to order, measure the outside of your artwork and order that size frame.
Frame Depth — The depth of a frame refers to the depth of the frame's rabbet (the cut-out area behind the frame's molding that holds your artwork in place). To find a frame that will accommodate your artwork, measure the depth of the artwork, including any matting or mounting materials, and order a frame with a depth that is, at a minimum, the same as that measured depth.
Open Back Frames — These frames are meant to be hung on the wall and are sold as just the frame face. They are not shipped with backing material, glazing material, or hanging hardware. The open back frames are commonly used for traditional profile stretched canvases.

How to ruin a good frame
from Los Angeles, CA
I have been very happy with Blick's frames in the past, but not this time. First, the frame is not really black but dark grey. Second, and worst thing about it: the cardboard corner protectors are *stapled* to the frame. So, you remove the cardboard and then try removing the staples and they break. Now you are left with tiny pieces of metal sticking out from the frame. I could remove some with a plier but not all, which I ended up hammering into the wood. Seriously??? How about using scotch tape to keep the protectors in place?
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Maple Floater Frame
from Milwaukee, WI
These frames have a very nice finish, the hard wood is excellent and it fit my painting very well. With a floater frame you can see the entire painting with no over lap. I did have to buy some clips to hold the painting in. They provide holes but they did not line up for me.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Needed three inexpensive frames for portrait series I've entered into a show. Arrived quickly, look great and gives the work a professional finish. Design is easy to install.
Floater picture frames

Floater frames allow the paintings to be seen entirely, no covering up the edges. These are terrific frames, nice finish, sizing, and wood. I accidentally ordered the wrong color and sent them back for exchange. I was impressed by the turn around time!!

Holes on edge or miss canvas, should be .250 inch wider
from Sherman, tx
Holes don't line up to canvas. Need to be .250 wider.

I used this great frame on a small, 11 X 14, still life. I bought it largely because I love floaters and because the natural wood really picked up a color in the background handily. One thing-----maple is a tough drill, but don't EVEN try to put a nail starter hole in it.
Wish it came in more colors!

• LOVE the narrow 3/8" face of the frame, the simplicity of the style, the fact that it's a floater frame, and the smooth finish.• Perfect for smaller paintings or those who like minimalist framing.• On the natural finish frame, wish the inside rabbet were black like the Blick Wood Floater frames (which are twice as wide as these maple frames). Also wish the finish were more neutral, less yellow.• Wish this frame came in a wider range of colors, not just natural and black. Colors like walnut, mahogany, white, gold, silver, old/crackle gold, dull/crackle silver, an non-shiny grayish-taupe color like aged barnboard, and an unfinished version for easy customization — all with the black rabbet.
