Welcome to dickblick
These unique frames are so named because the illusion they create is that your artwork is "floating" within the frame instead of being covered by it — perfect for displaying a gallery wrap canvas where no staples are visible. The canvas easily attaches to the stretcher bars from the back side with screws.
Available in a variety of popular sizes to accommodate 3/4" (1.9 cm) deep or 7/8" (2.2 cm) deep canvases, the Blick Maple Floater Frame is made from genuine American maple hardwood. Every frame has a beautiful finish with a silky smooth feel.
Note — Frames are sized by the opening, not by the outside of the molding. To determine the size of frame to order, measure the outside of your artwork and order that size frame.
Frame Depth — The depth of a frame refers to the depth of the frame's rabbet (the cut-out area behind the frame's molding that holds your artwork in place). To find a frame that will accommodate your artwork, measure the depth of the artwork, including any matting or mounting materials, and order a frame with a depth that is, at a minimum, the same as that measured depth.
Open Back Frames — These frames are meant to be hung on the wall and are sold as just the frame face. They are not shipped with backing material, glazing material, or hanging hardware. The open back frames are commonly used for traditional profile stretched canvases.

These are really good quality construction and finish. The pre-drilled wholes make framing easier, especially when in a rush before a show.

High quality professional looking frames at great price!
from Santa Monica, California
Easy to use with predrilled holes, but had to purchase screws necessary to put paintings in the frames. On sale, deal is fantastic vs purchasing at a framer for like quality.

I use the Maplewood for my contemporary oil paintings. It is very beautiful and unique. I agree with other customers that the back of the frame is too narrow. The screw hole positioned in the center of this narrow strip is too close to the edge of the painting and cannot be re-drilled without spiting the frame. It is VERY tricky to position the painting exactly right and you must angle the screw inward or you will not hit the canvas. The company could make the back 1/4" wider and move the hole over.
Just what I needed

Perfect for my small oil paintings, at a great price! The maplewood is a lovely finish. All I needed to attach the frames to the paintings were a few flat-head screws, an easy hardware store purchase. I only wish these frames came in more sizes!

I had a problem how to mount the picture in the frame. I called Blick and the operator put me in contact with a service tech. The service tech explained how to do. Great service!

I really like this frame, it's simple and solid. With Blick's sales I was able to get a good deal on it.

Great looking frame --- but
from Ossipee, NH
I am an artist. I make my own frames. Then I decided to once again try pre-fab frames. This frame has a nice feel and finish. BUT the screw holes on the back side are, as other artists have pointed out over the past few years, way too close to the edge. AND there is not enough room to screw the frame into the canvas' support frame without damaging the artwork. It needs another 1/2 inch (minimum) added to the existing dimension. I can't believe nothing has been done about this. I re-drilled the holes with an angle. Then the screws did not sit flat. This was the only way I could install the canvas without ripping out its sides. The gallery representing my work barely accepted this painting with this problematic frame. My other home-made (and elegant) frames surrounding my other artworks were accepted without a problem.I am sure many artists would be happy to see this part of the frame design improved. Another thing, the price is too high to justify a frame with so little wood and with an additional dimension of poor design for attaching an artwork someone has put their heart and soul to create. Come on frame company, whoever you are, add a little more wood and knock the price down a little. After all it is not gilded nor is it an exotic wood. Give us something to cheer about. Meanwhile, I will make my own frames once again and teach others how to do the same.
