These unique frames are so named because the illusion they create is that your artwork is "floating" within the frame instead of being covered by it — perfect for displaying a gallery wrap canvas where no staples are visible. The canvas easily attaches to the stretcher bars from the back side with screws.

Available in a variety of popular sizes to accommodate 3/4" (1.9 cm) deep or 7/8" (2.2 cm) deep canvases, the Blick Maple Floater Frame is made from genuine American maple hardwood. Every frame has a beautiful finish with a silky smooth feel.

Note — Frames are sized by the opening, not by the outside of the molding. To determine the size of frame to order, measure the outside of your artwork and order that size frame.

Frame Depth — The depth of a frame refers to the depth of the frame's rabbet (the cut-out area behind the frame's molding that holds your artwork in place). To find a frame that will accommodate your artwork, measure the depth of the artwork, including any matting or mounting materials, and order a frame with a depth that is, at a minimum, the same as that measured depth.

Out of the box this frame looked beautiful -- quality maple with a soft gloss finish and nice, tight corners. But when I placed my canvas into it I found it just doesn't work. The back level of the molding has been pre-drilled with large holes, intended, I'm sure, to allow one to easily screw through the back into the canvas's stretcher bars. Unfortunately the holes don't align at all with the stretcher bars, and they show from the front. There's too large a tolerance gap between the edge of the canvas and the depression it rests in (and I don't mean the gap that creates the desired floating effect between the canvas and the outer rim of the molding.) The holes are very noticeable and unattractive. I tried several different canvases in case I happened to be trying a defective one, but they all had the same problem. The concept for this product is great -- I've been wishing for a quality maple floater frame -- but in its current configuration it's unusable.
