Blick Heavy-Duty Cross-Braces add extra strength and stability to large canvases when used in tandem with Blick Heavy-Duty Stretcher Bars.
As a rule of thumb, if the frame being built measures 36" or longer in either direction, a cross-brace for every 18–24" is recommended. In some cases, only one cross-brace may be needed. For example, if the frame is 48" long and 24" wide, only one 24" long cross-brace is recommended. For a canvas that measures more than 36" long and 36" wide, two cross-braces may be required.
Blick Heavy-Duty Cross-Braces are priced per strip, not pair. To determine the correct size, order the same size cross-braces as your frame. The actual measurement of the cross-braces will be shorter, but they will be sized to fit inside the assembled frame.
Please note that even though the cross-braces fit snuggly against the stretcher bars, they must be attached to the frame with cross-brace brackets. Two FREE brackets are included with every cross-brace purchase. Additional brackets can be purchased below.
Note —These cross-braces are straight braces only. If notched braces are needed, a special order must be placed to center-notch the straight braces to ensure a proper fit. To place a special order, please call 1-800-447-8192, and be prepared to supply the dimensions of the frame you are building and the length you want notched. Notching is an additional charge and you will be notified of the additional charge before the order is processed.
Richeson Cross Brace Brackets — These cross-brace brackets work with all sizes of cross-braces to assure that your frames sit completely flat against the wall. Their slotted design allows for the finest adjustment of canvas tension. Each pack contains two brackets and six screws for easy assembly.
