It's no secret that many manufacturers are cutting corners and creating French-style easels that make a mockery of the original Jullian French easel. Don't let the bad drive out the good! Dick Blick asked Jullian, the designer of the original, to make us a French style easel with all the original workmanship and details, plus a few modern innovations that just make sense, like a nylon carrying strap.

This classically designed easel combines a sketchbox, easel, and canvas carrier in one for the on location, plein air painter. Blick's French Easel, designed by Jullian, is adjustable to whatever height and angle suits your painting style. It is beautifully handcrafted in naturally dried, oiled, and polished elmwood.

The easel includes a weather-resistant metal-lined box that holds a wood palette (included). It's also ideal for storing and transporting paints, brushes, and other accessories (not included). Use it as a canvas carrier too. Finished paintings can be placed on the outside of the folded easel and carried. Pre-assembled.

Carrying Bag — The easel now includes a FREE red canvas carrying bag with a nylon handle and shoulder strap for easy portability.

I waited for one of Blicks sales for about 3 months now and finally I got a deal I couldnt refuse. This is a well made quality fixture that every artist should have. I love the metal fixtures in the drawer they should keep my oils well arranged. It is nicely finished and a handsome addition to any studio. I cant wait to spill my first paint on it! JKG

Con: I wish it had bigger rubber feet so it could be used easier in a studio.

I bought mine in late 2010 and continue using it. I love that you can angle your art to various angles! Diverse and practical in its use. Good looking as well.

bought two of these, one for me and one for my girlfriend. I used mine daily for a painting road trip through big sur, for several months. have had it for over two years and still use it in the field and sometimes in the studio. have had no problems with it. quite pleased. ditto on the loose drawer dividers but that isn't a big problem. Excellent value and a good looking easel.

I bought this because of the way it looked and the affordable price...I went out of town set it up at a scenic location just to have it fall apart and break. It is a nice peice of aesthetic mastery. But falls short on duralibility. I replaced it with a all metal easel...durable, much more stable, and I don't have to fuss with it.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Ordered on line on a Monday and had the product in my possession by Thursday! Straight forward set-up. Although it came with instructions, I didn't need them. Like others, I found the drawer separators a tad loose but I just used a little tape to hold them in place.

The adjustability is wonderful, it feels quite sturdy, and the craftsmanship is top-notch! Used it this past weekend on a new portrait and was very, very pleased!

First purchase from Dick Blick and I will be a regular customer from here on out.

I just got my new easel yesterday so I set it up and used it last night. It is a nice solid portable easel and I'm very pleased with the quality. It's much more substantial than the easel I was using. I will be taking this new easel to Big Bend National Park in March 2013, so I'll report back on how it worked out!

The center divider was too short to stay in it's grooves. When I carry the easel from place to place the center divider would fall out of it's grooves and then rest of the dividers would go with it, leaving my paint tubes and anything eles in the metal tray in a pile at the bottom. The center divider is approximately 3/16" to 1/4" too short to remain in the slot.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Since this is my first easel, I really can't compare the quality to other easels, but it seems adequate enough. I plan to use this easel on site this summer & I must say that I really like the fact that I will be able to just pack up everything (almost) inside & go! In my humble opinion, I think the drawers could be a bit deeper, but it is a very good deal for the price (much less than similar easels). And it comes with its own canvas bag; nice.
