Excellent quality for price
from Newport, RI
I'm an illustration student and use this paper frequently with class projects and homework assignments. It's pretty decent quality for the price, as far as I'm concerned. I use it with pen and ink and watercolor. It will buckle with lots of water added, but so will most other thin watercolor papers
Nice Bright White & Hard Surface!

This paper has just enough tooth to make color or watercolor pencils glide smoothly yet leave great exture, and not so much that fine nib ink drawing is difficult. At 90 lb., the paper buckles just a little bit when wet but flattens nicely when dry. Just enough translucency on a light box, yet a nice heavy feel. This could be a go-to paper from now on.

Arrived quickly, well packaged. Need this paper in pristine condition, no bent corners, no wrinkles, and that's how I got it. Very satisfied.

Would not reccomend
I hate writing a bad review as I LOVE everything Blick. Ergo, just consider this information that might help you make the right choice for your needs. Bought four of these pads for a class. As a beginner I thought they would be fine for my needs, but they are barely useable for watercolor (may be fine for ink or sketching). Every time I try to put down even a light wash the paper pills badly. Teach took one look at the results and suggested I jsut use it for scrap paper. May be fine for kids, but not for anyone really intested in exploring watercolor seriously. Sorry Blick. Everything else you put your name on is great!

Essential Pads for the Novice artist
By R Nichole

The Blick Essential Watercolor pads are necessary for any budding watercolors. Th durability of the paper is great for those who wish to explore watercolors. The semi-smooth tooth of the paper allows for various washes and experimentation without damaging the paper.

I use this with inks not water color but the quality is very good and works well with what I am drawing.
cost and quality

Hi I am a retired and not retired art teacher who is always looking for quality products to use in my traveling classes. The watercolor paper I bought holds up well for a student group and as value goes doesn't break the budget when I'm teaching at the active aging centers in the area. It also is easy to get when you live in a rural area with little opportunity to purchase supplies because of outlets to shop from.I highly recommend this staple product for yourself or other students.

I bought eight pads to use for a systematic exploration of watercolor pigment properties. (I'm using one sheet per pigment). Even though I consider myself a student, I tend to avoid student-quality papers as I try to gain skill in technique. (Results with watercolors are so materials-dependent that I need to be sure that bad results are not the fault of the paper.) But I've found this paper to be so much better than any student-quality paper I've ever encountered, and will definitely be using more pads as watercolor sketchbooks, and maybe also will try it for attempts at more polished paintings instead of the much more expensive artist quality papers. Very pleased and I recommend this product.
Great for demonstrations!

I used it to show my students how to do washes and mix colors on the paper. For a 90 lb paper it was great!
