Comments about Blick Essentials Gloss Glaze:
the product is fine but the shipping packing was not so great. We receive one of the jar partially opened and was spilled all in the box. There was a mess but not enough to return and hassle so we kept the box as is.

Wonderful glaze for kids and adults
By Lyn the Extraordinary Education Director

I use this low fire glaze personally and in the classroom. It is thicker than some other low fire gloss glazes, which makes it easier for children to use as they don't necessarily need several coats. it spreads nicely and the colors mix in predictable ways like paint. IE, red plus yellow you get orange. The variety of colors are pretty fabulous and it is very reasonably priced. I have even mixed it with other brands and so far, it has always turned out beautifully. I highly recommend this product for everyone, but especially for the elementary, middle or High school classroom!
Students love the freedom

My students love being able to mix the Essentials colors to get the color of glaze that they want. I like not having to buy a large number of glazes to give my students color options.
Glaze that will AMAZE
from Chicago Heights, Illiinois
I ordered the Dick Blick Essentials glazes and I'm so glad I did. They are economical, cover well and the colors are vibrant! I will keep them on my list for pure color glazes.
Last batch of Black ruined my work!
from Penrose, CO
The last batch of Black that I ordered (3) bottles ruined 3 of my pieces... I've been using the DB black for over a year with great results until this last batch. Hard to explain but with 3 coats it is still separating and leaving hairline streaks of bare clay like it's not adhering to the clay. I have changed nothing else, still same firing schedule... My other glazes are fine. After ruining 3 pieces there will be no more testing of my remaining bottles... Really sucks when you put so much work into a piece...
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: We're sorry to hear that you had a discouraging experience with our glazes. From the picture you provided, it seems that the glaze is "crawling," which can happen when the glaze is applied too thickly or dries too slowly. However, please know that we always stand behind our products, and a member of our Customer Care Team will be working with you to resolve this.

They do not dry-out quckly, they do not burn-off when students do not glaze pots thick enough.
Best pink yet!
I've taught ceramics for 24 years, never have I been able to find a 'bubble gum' pink that my students always beg for. I've attempted to mix matador red w/ pink, white with red... no luck. Thought I'd experiment with the snapdragon glaze as the catalog image looked like it might be a possibility. Surprise! It actually works well - the brightest pink I've ever used. Do need to apply it THICK or it will be transparent.
Candy Apple not so red. :-(
By Mrs D

I bought several Blick glazes to try for the first time in an elementary classroom. Most of the colors came out pretty good. The Lemon yellow, Lagoon, and Black. However, the Candy Apples color looked brown. The Snap Dragon I thought would turn out pink, but has more of a light lilac tone. I fired the pieces at cone 06. Will try it at cone 05 and see if that makes a difference.

This glaze is quickly taking the place of most of the brand name glazes in the our middle school Art room. They come out of the bottle smooth and provide even opaque coverage in vivid colors. The price is amazing. I love the versatility of a glaze that can go from cone 06 to cone 6.
