Plenty of tooth for preparatory sketches is pastel, soft pencil or charcoal. Great for my students. Cheap and cheerful.

The texture allows students to experience the full range of drawing effects. Most instructors, especially for young students is forgetting to the importance of characteristics of fine art medium. Too often, expensive materials hamper creativity. This naturally textured paper mimics pastel/charcoal paper.
Purchased several times for my students.

This paper is great for classroom teachers to use with their students' drawing/sketching projects.

I tried this option because I needed a lot of cheap, expendable filler paper to practice book binding. For my needs, it was suitable, though the grain of the paper seems to vary from page to page which makes folding difficult. I found the fibers pretty loose, so it will tear easily. Definitely not for heavy duty media or working. Aside from that, it's great for sketch paper, note taking, jotting, etc. Would buy again, but would look at other products for more professional, permanent work.
For charcoal or sketching

It is cheaper than the sulfite drawing paper, so I use it for practice drawings, sketches, and as an option for choice time. It has a slightly rough texture, so it works well for chalk pastel and charcoal. I would not use it for oil pastel or paint or printmaking because of the absorbency. The oil from oil pastel leaks to the back and seeps out around the edges of the drawing. It does not hold up when wet. For drawing it is a decent inexpensive option.
For those budding artists in your house

I recall the paper I used as a child learning my craft and it doesn't even come close to the quality of this paper. It has a nice tooth to it for all hardnesses of pencils. The kids I buy this paper for gives it a "thumbs up".
