Nice product but arrived smelling very strongly
from Fishers island
Comments about Blick Cotton and Linen Canvas Blankets:
The product itself is a nice quality canvas, pretty heavy and a medium texture as advertised. My only complaint is that when I opened the package the blanket smelled really strongly like a hamster cage. And I had to deal with this smell thru the entire process of cutting down and stretching. It eventually went away after a few coats of gesso.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I love this material. My painting was not going to be stretched and frames in the conventional manner; thus I needed something very light weight and strong. It worked perfectly!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I haven't purchased linen in a while so I don't have a lot to compare things to this purchase. But, this blanket has great weight, even weave and a nice medium, tight tooth. Just what I was looking for!

I fabric collage and embroider on the canvas then stretch and paint - it works well for every medium I use on it!
Great Product, Great Value

The canvas is strong and durable. The weave and weight is especially well suited for thick paint application. Also, it should be noted that the folds in the in canvas easily move out when gesso is applied.
Arrived just fine.

The product was as expected, with the addition that it arrived to me while I'm away from my NYC studio, and I could continue work, (making paintings for a show), without further delay and expense.
Once again the company I can count on!

The canvas blanket came and that same day I had it measured, cut and had begun stapling it to the stretcher bars. And now some time later it has all been processed and have made several paintings to boot. I was anxious as i had a garden in full bloom and a few friends who would sit for me. What better way to spend a summer's day when the heat is too high to travel to paint out doors. With my garden i would go out and draw then come back into paint and of course after a few go rounds setting the values i had already changed the painting a bit. Thanks again. and the canvas came well baffled so very few wrinkle which is always appreciated!!.

I have been vary impressed with this linen so far. I add trouble getting out the wrinkles in the folded blanket before stretching, and because I like to use a PVA size applied before streching, this did pose an issue. I ironed on the hottest setting 3 times and still had some deep creases showing in the linen. I decided to size the linen on the stretcher bars, which took out all the wrinkles, but with the PVA sizing I was still left with a slack canvas and had to tap out the frame with wedges. If I had been using a rabbit skin glue or acrylic size, the wrinkles would not have posed any issue at all.All in all I am very please with the linen and have been able to successfully make a beautiful surface with more archival integrity and a lovely texture.
