I am a novice. I was home today with the flu and was so excited that it arrived I couldn't help but open it. 10 minutes later it was done. I used the directions on the PDF offered, then just looked at the picture to double check. It doesn't get any easier. Thanks. Solid construction and came through the mail without damage and very quickly.

If you are unsure, just go for it. You will be pleasantly surprised.

If your tight on space but appreciate a sturdy easel this is a great compromise. If you have a ton of space and never need to stash away your easel, this may not be the best. Overall a very well put together easel that requires almost no assembly.

I have a small bedroom that became my studio. This easel is perfect for my needs. It takes up a minimum amount of space and yet allows me to do works in both horizontal and vertical positions. It is easy to move into place or out of the way. The workmanship is almost perfect.... I had to use a hammer to straighten out one of the metal supports that arrived bent. Obnoxious but doable.... even for an old lady. The icing is that it looks as nice, or better than, a big, impressive, standard size wooden easel at half the cost.

I've had my easel for a few weeks now, and I love it. I had a few problems with the packaging. One of the black knobs on the back was broken, so I had a replacement shipped, and the OTHER knob was broken on the replacement. Luckily, I was able to swap one working knob to the original easel. I suspect rough package handling, because both times, the boxes were very beat up. That aside, the easel is great. I'd been working with a cheap tripod and wanted something much more sturdy, and this is terrific. Folds down easily and holds my canvas very well. And the price was great! I might buy a second one for my other home.

I hate to be the only negative comment, but I wish I would have read a bad review so that I knew what to expect when this arrived.

The quality of the wood and construction itself is not the problem. At first it seemed quite sturdy and of decent quality.

The problem was in the clamps that attach the canvas holders to the mast. You have to clip on these little brass "belts" in the back of the canvas holders. Mine kept falling off, thereby causing the canvas holders to slip. I find this to be very poor quality and not suitable for my studio needs.

Maybe mine was defective, because I also noticed that the "telescoping" masts have no way of staying up once raised (I could find no hardware in the back or in the box that keeps the masts in their desired position).

I was so frustrated with the whole thing that I immediately put it back in its (very poorly packaged) box and carried it to my nearest Blick store here in San Francisco.

Thankfully, the people at the Blick store were very nice and there were no issues returning the item.

I decided to go to another online store and purchase a different easel. Hope it works out!

I love my new easel....I have been looking for a long time and had no clue what to buy. I kept coming back to this one. It works so well for me in a small space..Very stable with larger canvases and mobile..I believe it will be all I will ever need. I have back problems and this works well for standing or sitting and in any position. The only problem I had is with the packing...Little to none...One of the twist knobs protruded out of the box and was damaged but still works and the other was out of the packing. But yes it is a wonderful easel and I have no regrets in purchasing it.

I wanted an "H" frame easel, but space is limited — am so glad I shopped Dick Blick.com because this easel is PERFECT. The size, portability, construction is amazing for the price.
