I was not expecting this to be anything but linoleum. Instead, it seems like someone mixed sawdust with some 50-year old gray paint, poured it on some burlap and cut it into rectangles. I had to use a knife to finish lines where they came together or else the edges would break and crumble. Even using heat, the material is hard to cut and never lies flat.
If your work needs any fine lines, use something else. If you have an "alphabet" of marks/cuts that you like to use, plan on only being able to use 50% of them.

I am relatively new to this medium and have been looking for a affordable lino connection. I bought some of this product due to the great price. I just got the lino today and found it tricky to cut, crumbly and the backing stayed wet when I rinsed off the ink. I will continue to use a different more expensive product as this was unacceptable.
I do not know if this product is worse than other comparably priced products, I just know if was not anything I would want to use. You might get almost all the way through a piece and then have it come apart and lose all you work!

I had previously been given by a friend a cut of this linoleum and had a very good experience with it. I recently bought a 3-pack of 18x24 cuts and all three came with an unfortunate crack in one of the corners. The lino seems drier, too, than what I'd previously used, and so it is difficult to make precise cuts as the lino is liable to crumble. I may simply have been shipped a bad batch.

this is good linoleum. it cuts very well, my gauges seem to just slide through it. my only suggestion would be to get the lino mounted, printing with just the sheet of lino can be tricky especially if you don't have a press, which i don't.

This is a good product for the price. It is a little stiff, but not too bad. Just warm it up a little. Never had a problem with cracks or crumbling while carving.

However, note that this product almost always doesn't come at the exact size specified. Also, the unmounted variety often has chipped and rough edges. Get pieces larger than you need and cut them down yourself. The precut stuff sometimes has debris stuck to the surface, just knock it off with some very smooth sandpaper.

Was initially worried as the surface is a little stiffer than the "name brand" linos you can buy at chain art suppliers, but was greatly surprised to find it was MUCH easier to carve that the "softer" linos I had previously used. I'm sold!

I buy most of my linoleum from Dick Blick. Their prices are unmatched for material of this quality. This linoleum cuts wonderfully, holds up well, and so far, I've never had any crack or chip while I was working with it. The only thing I would recommend is to buy slightly larger than you need it. For example, if the image you're going to print is exactly 5X7, go up a size to 6X8. I've only experienced it in the mounted linoleum, buy I've had blocks arrive with chips around the edges. Don't let this deter you though, this is still a wonderful product.

Oddly enough, I wasn't in search of linoleum for printmaking. I'm going to use it as a base to make a costume robotic arm. I was searching everywhere to find good, cheap linoleum so I could get a lot to cut up to make this mock armor, so finding it here at such a great price thrilled me.
