Canary sketching and tracing paper
The point of yellow "tracing paper" is to be able to make MANY sketches and tracings and overlays every day and/or work session without regard for cost. The sketch paper needs to be substantial enough to not require any special attention because it is flimsy. And it also needs to be rather inexpensive so you don't need to ration it out. A common term for this paper is yellow trash. Trash referring to cost, not it's value. And the term is used lovingly. Not least, being yellow, you can go up the value range and down range with colored pencils, because you are not starting at white. I prefer the 12" rolls. You learn to roll, press and quickly tear off. I find 12" rolls get fully used rather quickly and longer rolls not. A false start sketch is crushed in the hand and discarded and not labored over to salvage it. I have had 18" rolls collecting dust and I cut them in half on a band saw. Strangely the 9" rolls are not a good width. I have had 24" and wider rolls but they seldom got used because I prefer paper less flimsy when doing larger studies. Studies are started with the 12" paper and a different paper is used when larger drawings are required.

You can use this paper to trace over your patterns and save your originals from wear and tear. This paper is sturdy but very translucent making it a perfect medium for tracing. If you're tracing standardized patterns, you'll probably need the wider widths. I do a lot of tailoring of standardized patterns and use this paper to make my templates. Can't do without it. You'll need to invest in some painter's tape or drafting tape to hold the paper in place while you trace, though, and drafting tape won't permanently attach itself to your tracing paper.
Great great great!
