I use bristol board for many different things in my color and design class and i tried this bristol board because of its price but i found the texture to be nearly nonexistent even in the vellum surface. I will go back to using Strathmore bristol board, its worth the price difference.

Excellent product. I've tried both the vellum and plate finishes and both are great for my graphite and ink wash work. The paper is bright white and has a great feel. Plus it's reasonably priced. I would highly recommend Bienfang bristol to anyone!

This only pertains to the smooth finish, as I have not tried the vellum finish. The only positive about this product is the price. I bought this bristol to use with my dip pens and ink--and found it to be AWFUL! This paper does not take ink well at all--it feathers and bleeds, and in the end my ink looks far from sharp and crisp, it looks diluted and grayish.
Maybe the vellum finish would be better, but, I've always preferred the smooth finish when I use bristol. If you plan on using art pens (microns, staedtler pigment linets, etc.) then your results won't be as horrendous; but as far as using dip pens and ink, this bristol is absolutely horrible!

I have been using bristol board for my colored pencil work for many years. I have used several different brands, but Bienfang is one of the best I have found.
Both finishes are up to the latest standards for professional work, and yet would do just as well for classroom use.
I am a freelance Artist; my work has stood the test of time (as far as fade-proof, long-term use, ease of use for drawing finished pieces, etc.) and this brand is one that I will continue to use again and again!
