Taking pastel portrait class. This is the paper instructor recommended and that he uses. Excellent choice.
Preferred paper for finished work
from Chicago, IL
An instructor recommended Rives BFK 280 gsm for binding in a sketchbook to take a variety of dry and wet media. I've used pencil, conte, watercolor and acrylic with great results. The best quality of the paper, I think, is that it stands up so well to all these materials. I now hate to buy anything else, since I feel I'll be a little disappointed. It's not cheap, but IS money well-spent.
Rives BFK Printmaking Papers are Wonderful
from Keystone Heights, FL
As a printmaker I learned about Rives in an etching class. The papers are widely used in the circles I travel in these days and I love the softness of the paper and they way they take the inks when printing. The paper is easily cut to size using a paper folder and there is a consistency in the product so you know what you are going to get when you print.
Very difficult to flatten
Things that aren't great about it:You have to handle the paper a lot to get the bend out.Once you get it out of the roll it really curls.Needs lots of attention so it can get dirty/finger prints. The likely hood of getting it dirty is very high.I'm trying my best to flatten it out by spraying it lightly with a water midst and using a hairspray. Please advise if you have other ideas. Thanks
A great printmaking paper

This is a great paper for etching as well as lithography. I prefer the lightweight options, as the bulky BFK can be too thick. It soaks well, takes ink well, and is an overall really nice paper. Not very good for drawing on.
Great for Etching
The size is perfect for etching plates, soak in water and damp dry with towel. Holds ink well.
Love that BFK
from Staten Island, NY
I like BFK Rives printmaking paper best for the heavily embossed collagraphs I do. It is flexible but very strong and holds up well with really tight pressure on the press.

High Quality Printmaking Paper
from San Francisco/ Turlock CA
I use this for Printmaking, specifically lithography, using oil based ink and it is great! great weight, color, and easy to work with. I'm sure you can use it for other things that require heavyweight paper :)
