Perfect portable easel
from Way up North in Wisconsin
This "bookstand" makes a perfect easel. It can be adjusted from an almost vertical position to almost flat. This makes it useful for watercolor painting that can be done on a table top. It is very portable to take to classes or even outdoors used with a lightweight foldable garden table.

Exactly what I was looking for
from mastic beach, ny
I lean a lot when I draw and paint. I have 2 other desktop easels from blick - one with the drawer built in. while those are nice- they have hardware that you hand tighten when you adjust your angle of easel- never holds! This has a nice sturdy frame that locks on the base with recesses for a dowel that goes across the back of the frame - it doesn't budge! Theres 4 different positions. There is a more expensive easel from another retailer that I was looking at at first that does the same thing- then I saw this and Im glad I did!!
Versatile table easel
from Los Angeles, CA
USE: I bought this "book stand" hoping I could adapt it for watercolor painting. I needed a compact, lightweight, portable folding table-top easel that would travel flat to my watercolor class, set up quickly on the table, hold a back-board steady, adapt to different angles, then fold down and pack away with minimum fuss. Ditto for my kitchen table.WHAT'S GREAT: The Beechwood Book Stand 50512-1030 does everything listed above and appears to be sturdily built with smoothly moving parts. It's light enough to carry, but sits solidly on the table. There are 4 different angle notches (the angle degrees are not listed) and can lie flat. I use a 15"H x 20"W back-board; the adjustable top header/holder extends to 19", so I can use a larger board as well, up to 1/2" or 3/4" thick in the notch (and thicker if using just the downward pressure of the header). I think this stand would work well with other media. The price is right at $25.49, and I got an extra 20% off due to the size of my overall order, so $20.39! WHAT'S NOT SO GREAT: If the ideal angle for watercolor is 15 degrees, I do not believe this stand angles down that far (one more notch might do it). I found that I could lay an (approx.) 1/2" x 1/2" x 18" wooden stick crosswise on top of the notch bars, and adjust the degree up or down to my preference just by sliding the stick backwards or forwards and letting the side "arms" rest on top of it; the weight of the painting platform holds the stick in place.
