Baltic Birch Panels are popular with artists because of their firm, smooth surface, neutral color, strength, and affordable cost.
The smooth, sanded surface and edges on these Baltic Birch Panels make them ideal for detailed work. They also can be used with oil, acrylic, and encaustic paints — and they're a great surface for mounting prints, canvases, collages, and other mixed-media artworks.
Baltic Birch Panels are available in a variety of popular sizes, including square sizes, in convenient packs of five panels. Each panel measures 1/8" (3 mm) thick.

Comments about Fox Haase Baltic Birch Panel Group Packs:
I bought these panels as a base for gluing canvas on them. Almost all of the 8x10 panels showed a degree of warp after the canvas was applied. I would not use larger sizes of these panels because they would probably warp even more.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I ordered these to use as support for watercolors on board and acrylics on copper so right now I am not painting on them directly. However, they have a nice surface so I plan to gesso and paint on them directly (may require very small amount of sanding). I purchased the flat and simply cut some strips to frame the back. This is an inexpensive way to obtain a cradled look. Very pleased!
Some Panels Are Unusable
Many of the panels I received have rough surfaces, requiring much sanding to prepare them for a ground. Some panels are patched, which is scary as I can see those patches popping loose at some point in the future. Given those problems, I would not purchase these panels again.
Merchant response: We're sorry to learn that some of the panels you received were not usable. A member of our Customer Care Team will be contacting you via email to see how we can help.
I would buy this product again and again.

Good choice for small paintings
By Happy Painter
from Dothan, AL
I have used these Baltic Birch Panels for egg tempera and oil painting as well as for mounting paintings done on paper. For oil and egg tempera I prepare the surface with Gamblin's Traditional Gesso. When I apply the gesso to both the front and back the board remains stable without warping. The surface is adequate when I apply several coats of gesso. I would not say it creates the smoothest surface I've worked on, but the more coats of gesso the smoother it gets. When I applied wheat paste adhesive to one side to mount a painting done on paper, the board bowed slightly. However, when I applied a painting with Neutral pH Adhesive the board did not warp. I have worked on many types of boards over the years and I find these Baltic Birch Panels great for small paintings. They are superior to any wood panels that can be purchased at big box hardware stores. They are surprisingly stable for not being cradled.
Affordable and good quality for collage projects

We use these thin boards for exploratory collage projects, not final projects. They provide a nice wood feel and surface without breaking the bank. We buy these all the time!
Baltic Birch Panels are true, well made and quite flawless
By Wade the Painter

These Baltic Birch panels are well made, normally quite free of flaws, knots, and blemishes and consistent. They are my exclusive choice for all of my plein air work.
I use these boards to mount my linen to paint on. Boards look very nice, the weight is good and standard size is good. Boards tend to bow a bit which would not work in larger sizes, but smaller is ok. They straighten out in a frame.
