I continue to buy this tape for my son. He claims it's the best screen printing tape! Dick Blick is the only place that carries it. Thanks!!!
The perfect tape!
from San Clemente,CA
My son cannot live without this tape!! His hobby is screen printing and this tape does the job! I only buy it from Dickblick.
great for prepping wood screens
My students use this tape to prep a screen for print runs after burning photo emulsion. Its quick and easy as a border mask and releases reasonably well although for small blackouts I still use brown masking tape. The adhesive on the red tape is so aggressive that it can rip out Speedball emulsion!
A very durable tape

The AWT tape will not rip when you try to reclaim the screen, which is probably the most annoying part of using a cheap screen printing tape. If you do a decent job pressing the tape down, then it generally takes a few months of printing for water to start leaking into the frame. I always recommend using a screen filler on the frame edge under the tape.
work great IF CLEAN NEW SILKSCREEN FIRST
When I first purchased this, I was frustrated-- it stuck to itself well, but didn't seem to stick to my new Blick silkscreens at all. A friend told me to just clean the new silkscreens first-- there must be some kind of a powder or something on them. I scrubbed them briskly in soap and water.Afterwards, the tape sticks great!
Sticks to everything but the screen

I bought this tape to block off the portion of the screen I was not using and to protect the frame while washing the screen. This tape sticks to everything BUT the the screen fabric. Tape keeps bubbling & pulling away from the fabric. I don't want the ink to become trapped under the tape & ruin my design. I tried 2 times to cover my screen with this tape & finally resorted to using my instructor's roll of screen tape (different brand) which worked perfectly. This tape is a waste of time & money.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I contacted blicks customer service and asked what tape is good for screen printing and they told me about this tape so I bought and it sucks it ruined the inside wood part of the screen and when I removed the tape from the screen It peeled off some of the screen filler.

Reviews refer to the inability of this product to adhere to open screen fabric, which is true. What I use this tape for primarily is to seal the inside and outside edges where fabric meets frame. What works, so well for me is to apply oil-base polyurethane varnish to the inside edges of the open screen to create an impermeable water proof perimeter at least 2 " out from the inside of the screen-frame. I also suggest the use of a butcher paper cover sheet to protect the image area of the screen fabric from accidental hiccups with the polyurethane varnish. The varnish is best applied with a wide china brush or disposable foam brush. When the varnish dries, the AWT Red tape has a solid platform for adherence and will prevent water-based inks, and water, etc from slipping between the screen-frame and the fabric.. It can also be used to patch small pinholes in photoscreen stencils, but doesn't remain in place when adhered to open screen areas which become wet with ink during printing.

Works well for me
from Huntsville, AL
I use this tape to seal the edges of my screen to prevent ink from leaking through. It's worked really well so far, holds up great, and doesn't leave any sticky residue when it's removed. I even leave it on when I wash ink out of the screen to reuse later. Good experience compared to other tapes I've used!
