Art: 21 Season 5 DVD

Art in the Twenty-First Century

Through in-depth profiles and dynamic behind-the-scenes footage featuring artists speaking directly about their inspirations and ideas, Season 5 of Art: 21 shows a broad range of artistic practice, technical innovation, and experimentation — from artists tackling large-scale collaborative projects in hangar-like studios, to those working in the quiet of more intimate studio settings.

Art: 21 traveled around the world in Season 5, filming the creation of new art on every continent (except Antarctica) and in museums, studios, galleries, and homes in 9 countries. The DVD covers 14 internationally recognized artists, from painters and sculptors to photographers and artists exploring the possibilities of new media, who were filmed in their own environments and in their own words.

The result is an exceptional opportunity for audiences to experience first-hand the complex artistic processes behind some of today's most intriguing and thought-provoking art.

Artists include William Kentridge, Doris Salcedo, Carrie Mae Weems, Cao Fei, Mary Heilmann, Jeff Koons, Florian Maier-Aichen, Paul McCarthy, Cindy Sherman, Yinka Shonibare, MBE, John Baldessari, Kimsooja, Allan McCollum, and Julie Mehretu.
