Handcrafted Ampersand Value Series Unprimed Basswood Artist Panels are perfectly smooth, non-flexing, and ready to prime with the ground of your choice.
Basswood is an excellent material for artist panels because it's seamless, knotless, and non-fiber-raising, resulting in a clean, professional look. We recommend you seal and prime this panel for optimum archival stability.
These panels are cradled with quality solid pine strips that can also be finished with paint or stain.

A Great Surface for Yupo Paintings
from Laguna Woods, CA
Comments about Ampersand Value Series Artist Wood Panels:
I adhere yupo watercolor paintings and mixed media paintings to the boards for a "no frame" appearance. I love the boards because they are so smooth and flawless. It's easy to apply the adhesive and yupo paper. The art appears to be floating. I like leaving the natural wood sides unless the painting needs a darker border. Even when you paint the sides they are smooth and perfect. This type of presentation is less expensive than framing and I like it better because there is no glass to interfere with the artwork.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Incredible value to quality ratio!
By ROBO OHNO
from Orlando, FL
I love these panels for acrylic painting, as well as for mounting my art prints on! They just feel like quality cuts/builds. Even the smaller panels feel like a ton of love went into them. If you're looking for gallery ready panel canvases, look no further!

Amazing product for the price
By Shade Of Gray Design
from Lombard IL
I am a pyrography artist and I was in need of a clean wood to burn on. This wood canvas is smooth, no sanding needed. No splinters or rough edges. Absolutely no grain or knots to work against and very importantly NO sap deposits! It was such a relief to burn on something so clean. One of the best features is that it's a canvase so the backing already has the edge you need in order to hang it up. No hammering sawtooth hangers into wood and being nervous about going too far or splitting the wood and ruining your art work. Great product and I will be buying again!

Ampersand is my "go to" for art panels
from Asheville, NC
These boards are uniformly made and the cradles edges look beautiful. I finish my cradled edges with a clear coat of encaustic medium and it brings out the lovely wood grain. Other boards that I've used in the past are uneven in dimension and the edges are often unattractive. Love these boards as well as Encausticbords for my wax work.
Decent quality panels

These panels by Ampersand are well made and a step up from other brands that offer student level materials. Very pleased and will buy them again.

The only panels I will buy
from New Orleans, La.
I buy these panels for encaustic painting and mixed media artwork. They are the only cradled panels I have found that are exactly true to size. Others I have purchased in the past because they were less expensive proved to be slightly off and did not fit in the frames. When using these panels for mixed media I sometimes have to nail into them and they never split. I will continue to purchase them.
Consistently Excellent Product

I paint the sides with black and mount my Watercolors on the surface after varnishing with UV Varnish. It's an inexpensive and contemporary way to present your work without framing. I recommend it often to my students.

I now mount my watercolors on panels to display them. It is modern and beautiful. Combined with floater frames it is a very affordable framing alternative.
