It takes a while to get used to this substrate, but persistance pays off and once you get a few things figured out the technique is no longer a challenge and you can go back to making your artwork the only challenge. Things to pay attention to: softness or stiffness of your brushes, letting paint pool in large areas, then lifting off or glazing over, extreme lightness of touch for drybrush techniques. Strongly recommend the manufacturer's tutorial on the Ampersand website--it will save you a lot of time and grief!

I like to use these when I travel by air and have to worry about space and weight. These are thin and take up little room in my luggage. Although they are used by primarily by watercolorists, they make an ideal substrate for my acrylic work.

I buy the multi-packs of these all the time, barely an order goes by when I don't have them throw in a pack of these. They are a DREAM to paint on with watercolors OR oils!

I would caution against trying to tape the edge of these for a clean border, they don't seal even with frog tape for a clean edge so watercolor work you have to plan for all the way to the edge.

I use them more often for oils, they give a wonderful fresco effect to oil painting and they tend to cure faster that canvas or the smooth boards, although this method can be a little hard on your brushes, the effect is fantastic.

They are also a little hard on watercolor pencils, keep your sharpener handy and be prepared to use it. They work really well with water soluble pastels/crayons, as well.

The ONLY thing I don't like about these is the spelling of aquabord... when I list my paintings for sale i get "you spelled 'Board' wrong comments for people ALL THE TIME. It's very annoying...lol.

I bought one of these to try maybe a year ago and had it sitting in my cabinet ever since. Today I tried it. Wow! I should have waited to use up all my watercolor paper first, because now I don't know if I can make myself use it.

The aquabord is different to work on, but the colors are vibrant and easy to lift. You can rework passages endlessly or wipe them completely clean and try again. Resist works beautifully and removes so easily, even leaving the color behind when applied on an already painted area. I read on someone's blog that the varnish needs to be applied on a dry day, so I'm waiting on that, but it will be great not to have to mat and frame beneath glass.

I'm off to order lots of aquabord -- thanks for carrying this great product!

I used this product after being introduced to it at a watercolor seminar.

It takes multiple layers of pigment well, but there is a slight tendency to push the under-layers around unless using a extremely soft squirrel hair brush. However, the plus side is that you can lift color to get all the way back to white -- even staining colors!

It can be varnished -- thereby you don't need to put your watercolors under glass any longer.

Because it is rigid, stretching & matting is not needed, thus saving $!

I will continue to use this as the colors remain vibrant and alive!

It accepts watercolor like cold-press but lifts like hot-press. Completely forgiving. Easy to correct mistakes or change the entire composition. Lifting color so easily takes a little getting used to but it's worth the effort. It's a JOY to use!!

I a novice when it comes to water color painting and this board alows me to lift paint off with out damaging the surface plus I don't have to strtch the paper it's already done!

I use the Aquabords to paint all my watercolor paintings. The boards take the paint well, make making corrections very easy, and -- when sealed with a fixative -- look like oil paintings.
