Show off your colors like never before! An archival, acid-free textured clay surface that absorbs watercolors like a fine paper, Aquabord allows colors to retain their purity and vibrancy in a way that even the finest watercolor papers can't match.
Its unique surface is perfect for watercolors and gouache, needs no stretching, and will not tear, shrink, or buckle.
Endlessly glaze and lift to underlying layers of color — or completely lift back to white without damaging the surface!
Aquabord is also ideal for casein, acrylics, and more. Unlike paper, Aquabord can be sealed and displayed glass-free, keeping colors and textures true to life.
Aquabord is made in the USA.

Comments about Ampersand Aquabords:
It might take a little getting used to this board. Especially if you are used to watercolor on paper; but it's one of those products that you either love and use or choose to go back to paper. I think it is the medium of watercolor on a board for people used to oils on canvas.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

First time user...very nice
from Coos Bay, OR
I'm a watercolor artist and I decided to try Aquabord for a number of reasons: I was excited about the possibility of not having to frame a piece if I didn't have to, but still be able to display it nicely, being able to buy pre-designed sizes, and the fact that I'd read reviews that suggest I didn't have to be super careful with this stuff. Maybe I'm weird, but whenever I try a new brand of watercolor paper, I have to learn how to use it to get the results I want ... just little technical changes. Aquabord is the same way - there's a bit of a learning curve with it, but I'm happy with how my paintings are turning out, and am very glad I tried it!I ordered a cradled panel and it arrived on my doorstep in very good shape. Excellent product!
Love the look of watercolor on these boards and the versatility...
Not For Watercolors As Stated
from Lexington, KY
I ordered the Aquabord to paint a floral watercolor. It stated in description that it was for watercolor paints. I was sadly disappointed when I tried to use watercolor paints on this media. It's not impossible but I had to apply gesso to get paint to adhere to Aquabord. The paint doesn't flow as watercolors usually do. It's difficult to get rid of hard lines/edges. The Aquabord has too much texture for a floral and may be ok for other subjects. I tried several different brushes to obtain the results I wanted, but only a stiff brush allowed paint to adhere to gesso. You must allow paint to dry thoroughly before applying another coat, otherwise it pulls previous paint off and leaves a bare spot. Several glazes have to be applied to Aquabord to get paint to adhere, by then the paint is too dark. I may try using a sponge as I have done before when using watercolors on canvas. I will revert back to my hot press paper next time for florals, but will struggle through this painting until it is completed.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: We're sorry if the Aquabord was not as you expected. It is for watercolor, but its clay surface will have a different feel than paper — paint lifts easily and completely, washes take longer to dry, and dry colors maintain greater intensity. We realize this surface won't be to everyone's liking, and it does have a bit of a learning curve. If we can further assist you with the Aquabord, or if you ever have questions on a surface you've never tried before, we hope you'll let us help. Great for egg tempera just as for watercolors. Large 22"x 30"boards dont warp even after heavy floats or glazing. Holds transparency really well. Love the board

This is a great alternative to watercolor paper. It is a lot of fun to paint on, though it takes a bit to adjust the variations from paper. But, it keeps colors vibrant and is fun to work on. This might be my new thing!
Couldn't be happier :)

I'm partial to Ampersand products, trying the aquabord for the first time. It arrived quickly and in perfect condition, fantastic price and love working on the surface. My clients love the look of the modern cradled wood sides.

love this as I can use it in so many ways and be able to redo it as I want and also get a see through affect on petals, clothing etc. So much fun to work with and so surprising what you come up with. I show it too many other artists and they are intrigued by it. Merna Alger
Aquabord is an amazing acid-free surface for water media that won't warp, buckle or tear. This surface works similarly to a cold-press watercolor paper with several benefits: colors remain true and vibrant since the paint sits on top of the surface rather than absorbing into it. Multiple layers of clean color can be stacked one on top of the other, and lifting back to white is incredibly easy. You can scrub the surface without any damage — and once your painting is complete, you can frame without glass or backing!
Ampersand manufactures a wide variety of archival artist panels. There is a surface for every artist, every medium and every technique. Watch this video to learn which of these boards is right for you!
