Amaco Potter’s Choice glazes achieve the effects of Cone 10 reduction without the need for a reduction gas kiln or firing to high temperatures. These lead-free glazes are made to fire at Cone 5-6 (2205°F–2269°F, 1207°C–1243°C), in an oxidation kiln.
Glazes are available in pint liquid, gallon liquid, or 25 lb dry packages. The 25 lb dry dipping glazes are packaged in 5 gallon buckets for easy pouring. Only stirring is necessary before application. For spraying and dipping, glazes may be thinned with water. See manufacturer's instructions for spray application. PC-4 is not dinnerware safe.
For best results, follow these special application instructions for the following PC series glazes.
Note — Please see Resources tab for more layering and application techniques.
Blue Rutile needs to be applied heavily. Apply at least four coats. It will flow just a little and create beautiful effects.
Shino needs to be applied irregularly. Apply two irregular coats. Once you have used it a while you will see the effects you can get by varying the application.
Salt Buff has to be applied on the thin side. No more than two irregular coats are needed to get the random effect of salt glazing.
Color Chart Note — Use this color chart as an approximation of the real color. If exact color matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.

I use the Potters' Choice glazes and often reorder favorites or try one I haven't used previously. The glazes are consistent and reliable when you follow the directions on each bottle for application. Blick ships quickly and the prices are very good - and there are often sales or free shipping!
Potter's choice galzes
from Biscoe, North Carolina
I purchased Potter's Choice glazes for my high school art classes mainly for the ability of these glazes to break often times creating intricate color variations. After researching the very informative Amoco website students experimented with the almost limitless color interactions layering Potter's Choice offered. Glazes hold well with little overrun. They should be brushed in 3 to 4 layers allowing all previous layers to first dry. Would highly recommend if looking for glazes creating multi-color effects.

Merlot and Ancient Jasper
I ordered Ancient Japser and the Merlot glazes. Firing in a cone5/6 kiln, the Ancient Jasper is mostly brown, with little bursts of diffferent shades of brown. I added a clear glaze over it another time, and the bursts just started to get lighter. (over B-mix and Stone ware) It is very thin, I think it needs more than 3 brushed coats.Merlot- at 5 coats over the stoneware, I am finally getting more of the dark purple color and less of the brown. I think these glazes are just thinner than I am used to. I bought them in the pre-mixed pint sized, in case bigger bathes are better, I wanted you guys to know. It's fiddly! I'll keep messing with it, and see if I can work out the kinks!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I love the intensity of the colors. Layering them is lots of fun full of happy surprises. The celadons are great for using over underglazes too.

I ordered several Potters' Choice glazes. The prices were good and the shipping was fast. I was notified that one glaze was backordered. It was shipped about a week later, in the time frame stated for its approximate shipping date. Will certainly order from Blick's again!
