This is the first time I've tried Amaco glazes, and I'm a convert. I've always used Spectrum and they are good glazes, but some of them run terribly. I've tried 6 different Potter's Choice glazes and none of them run at all. The blue rutile and indigo float are particularly eye-catching and I can't wait to experiment with combinations of the various glazes! Fantastic results plus the fact that the Amaco glazes are less expensive than Spectrum make the choice a no-brainer!

I have used Blue Rutile, Albany Slip Brown , and True Celadon dipping glazes on my pieces for the last 3 years. Blue Rutile is my top seller. I've used it on white, brown speckled, dark brown and red stoneware with the only difference being the shading. It reacts and runs the same on each type of clay. If I need to overlap dipping on my large pieces, I just sponge the visible seam with a little extra glaze and it breaks beautifully. Albany Slip did craze on my brown speckled clay when it was too thick or if I took my pieces out of the kiln before the temp reached 90. I don't have any problem with it now because I am very careful about the glaze thickness. True Celadon looks great on white clay, but looks a little washed out on brown speckled. I dip once and sponge around the outside lightly to add a more vibrant green to these peices. Be careful using this on red or dark brown clay because it tends to be too dark, almost a black. I've also had success with Oil Spot, but I can't seem to get the right coloring with the Shino, so it just sits unused in the bucket. Overall, these are fantastic glazes with the Blue Rutile being my top choice.
