Amaco No. 48 Stoneware Clay

Ideal for larger work, Amaco No. 48 Stoneware Clay is blended from several clays chosen for their plastic qualities, plus coarse fireclay and grog. Offering a superb texture for throwing, hand-building, and sculpting, No. 48 fires to a warm speckled buff color at Cone 5–6 oxidation, and is dark brown after reduction firing.

The firing range is Cone 5–10 (2205°F–2381°F). Bisque fire to Cone 04 (1971°F, 1077°C). The recommended glaze firing is Cone 5 (2205°F). At Cone 5, bisque is warm buff peppered with dark spots, with 11.3% shrinkage and 6% absorption. At Cone 10, shrinkage is 11.7% and absorption is 2.9%.

A 50 lb carton consists of two 25 lb bricks, each in a poly storage bag, so any amount can be used as required and the rest stored for future use.
