Supplied in both dry and moist formulas, Amaco No. 46 Buff Stoneware Clay has a firing range of Cone 5–10 (2205°F–2381°F), with a recommended glaze firing of Cone 5 (2205°F).
The moist clay is de-aired to ensure a homogenous mixture that needs little or no wedging. The dry clay is finely ground and air-floated before packaging, ready to be mixed with water to form a smooth clay. Amaco No. 46 clay is excellent for all hand methods of building, push and pull, coil, sculpture, and throwing on the wheel.
Bisque fire to Cone 04 (1971°F, 1077°C). When fired at the recommended glaze firing of Cone 5 (2205°F), bisque is buff colored with 12% shrinkage and 1.8% absorption. Clay fired to Cone 10 (2381°F) will be a soft gray color with 13.2% shrinkage and 0% absorption.
A 50 lb carton consists of two 25 lb bricks, each in a poly storage bag, so any amount can be used as required and the rest stored for future use.
