Comments about Amaco Marblex Gray Clay:
This clay worked really well with the children, it's easy to divide up and it stays wet for a long time. If your classroom doesn't have a kiln I would recommend this alternative to making ceramics!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

It just made me sad
I've worked with air dry clay before and I have never had this bad of an experience. i bought the big pack (I think 5 pounds) because I thought it was a good deal. First of all, this clay was sticking to everything- too moist? Maybe. It was hard to form anything out of it. When i finally got my project formed, I left it to dry at room temperature. Haven't touched it at all for over 24 hours. It seemed to be hardening just fine. 2 days later, all I had was a crumbled mess, everything fell apart into pieces. I was hoping to use this clay for a project but nope, never again. I'd request a refund but I used up half of it already. Stick to the more expensive but reliable clays.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with this clay. Like ceramic clays, air-dry clays can have varied working properties. Some, usually geared toward novice users, have additives to mitigate shrinkage and cracking. Others, like the Marblex, do shrink, and best practices must be observed to ensure the best results. To avoid cracking, make sure you don't leave a rigid armature in the clay, and build your form so that the walls are of uniform thickness. Score and slip any joins, and, most important of all, cover the piece so it dries slowly and evenly. I used this to make clay necklaces and it worked very well. Clay held shape and size and I was able to rework imperfections before drying. I was a little disappointed that this gray clay wasn't as gray as I thought it would be. It's just slightly darker than the white clay. Not too much of a difference. I had hoped for it to be darker.
I would purchase again

Good for fun! NOT for durability!...
It is a fun clay to build with! Still use it once and a while. But if you want to make something with clay to set on a shelf i recomend gluing it down! It is fairly brittle and easy to break after it dries. Example: Sculpted solid full size hand, fell about 4 feet onto carpet and broke into 4 pieces.THIS PRODUCT CAN NOT BE WRAPPED AROUND A WIRE OR RIGID FRAME. IT SHRINKS TOO MUCH AND CRACKS ALL APART WHILE DRYING!, as box states!

Exactly what I was looking for!
from Greencastle, IN
I needed a product to fabricate a gag gift to be marketed on the internet - didn't know what to use. I found this company and the support staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They realized immediately that I am not artistic in the least and they took the additional time needed to make sure my needs were recognized and met. The product was exactly what I needed and the service was exellent. Thank you!!

A great price and enough clay for approx. 60 children to have a sizeable piece to play with.
