Comments about Amaco Lead-Free Semi-Moist Underglaze Sets:
Oh, these are great fun. They work on greenware and bisque. Nice bright colors, easy watercolor application. I admit I liked using them so much that I bought a second set before seeing the final outcome for the first piece I used them on. So, fingers crossed, I'll buy a third set. They're a great price on this site. I have spent a lot of time tinkering with mason stains to achieve similar effects, with mixed results. So it's great to find what seems to be a more reliable ready-made product. I would say this is probably better for the hobbyist potter than someone doing a lot of production work.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Bought the glazes as a gift for my wife and she loves working with it. Really adds a new dimension to her potery work.
I tried. The underglaze that was supposed to be cone 5. But after 2 separate firings the green would not vitrify. Poor quality IMO. All should be consistent in nature. These are cheap made and way over priced.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

If you are a painter and work in clay, too, this product allows you the chance to create a 3D canvas using lowfire white clays. Use a clear gaze over your painting to allow permanence.

Lovely, vivid colors!
By Katie the Art Teacher

I teach high school art and my high school students LOVE being able to use watercolor techniques on their pottery. I was able to try them out too and found the colors to be very pretty and also quite easy to control. The only downside is that they're quite expensive for a small amount.

Flowers using the underglazes
I have used these since 1978 and love how the colors look and how you can use them to get watercolor effects. I am an art teacher and the kids love how easy they are to use.
Amaco ceramic underglazes stay put where applied, even when fired. They offer controlled designs and come in a variety of formats; liquid, semi-moist, pastel stick and pencil. With underglaze, you can achieve a wide range of effects and detailed lines that you can't get with regular glazes.
