These special effects glazes imitate the favorites of artisan potters. They are Cone 05 (1911°F) semi-opaque oxidation glazes that yield the look of high-fired reduction stoneware. They can be fired over any Amaco earthenware clay, but look best over dark or red firing clay. The color in the clay will partially show through the texture and add another color dimension to the glaze.
These glazes look their best over dark or red firing clay such as Amaco 67M. The color in the clay will show through the glaze somewhat, which adds another color dimension to the glaze. Many different looks can be achieved depending on the clay on which the glazes are applied. Effects like Tommoku, Rutile, Oil Spot and other reduction surfaces are achieved without the cost or trouble of high-fire reduction.
Apply Artist's Choice Glazes over cone 04 fired bisque or higher. Better results are achieved when red clay is fired one or more cones higher than the glaze firing.
For glazes A-24 Exotic Blue and A-40 Seafoam Green, glaze fire slowly and add a 20-minute hold at the end of the firing. The other glazes in the series will work well whether they are fired fast or slow.

Great Low Fire Glaze
By Pottery Guy
from Pittsburgh, PA
Comments about Amaco Artist's Choice Glaze:
This glaze produces beautiful affects on pottery. I fire on white bisque ware so I was wary of trying this because all examples I had seen were on red bisque ware. However, I was very pleased with the results. I have used this by itself and then one coat over the Opalescent Autumn Leaf. By itself it provides a deep green/ turquoise with hints of blue. Apply 3 coats for great affects. When applied one layer over Autumn Leaf I found great results. It was a light green. It also produces a nice shine to it and is good safe. Overall this is a great product. I just wish it wasn't so pricy. One pint costs $10-$15 dollars!

Great on red or darker clay bodies
By Burnt Bowls
from High Springs, Fl.
We use this product thinned with water and brushed onto a red bodied Raku clay. We do this to ensure that the glaze "streaks" in an uneven manner. This allows the oxidizing effects of Raku reduction to create an old world look. We also use these glazes to dip small bowls and cups thrown in a white porcelain clay. This glaze performs well allowing details and impressed areas to thin during firing. On red or stone ware clays this makes a pleasing "antiqued" look. On porcelain it creates a delicate relief that enhances the overall clean lines of white clay.

Green Float ROCKS!
About Me Artist, Teacher
I LOVE the Green FLoat Glaze. Its a low fire glaze that looks like a high fire. The results are beautiful. I've found the more coats, the more marbling effect. One coat yields a brown color, and more coats on top create the green.
