I do a little Drafting and love this sharpener.
I know that you may have some difficulty in sharping softer leads because some leads may break as you sharpen.The First thing I do is to put a Little 3 IN ONE Oil on to the shaft of the Alvin Rotary Lead Pointer.I DO NOT Press Down Hard on to the sharpener and turn it.This works for me!
I just wish they could come up with a sharpener that could clamp on to my Drafting Table.

I've used this pointer with 2B leads so I presume it would do well on the HB and 2H leads I also have (but haven't tried). The more lead you let out of the holder and into the pointer, the more you'll have to be careful as to not create what will be little more than a shard of lead as your point. The built in cleaning pad works great.

I currently use koh-i-noor 6B 2mm leads for one of my leadholders, and this sharpener continuously breaks the point off before it can be adequately sharpened. Also, I can't get quite as good as a sharpen on this with the harder leads as I can with the built in sharpener on my leadholders.

This is the best rotary poniter I have ever used. It was inexpensive (which made me cautious) but it does the job well. I am very satisfied with the product and the service that I received from the company.

Had to get a replacement. The first didn't work. They don't feel very sturdy and will eat the softer leads. Appears to be working better after some use. Would prefer a sturdier modle
