Great product horrible assembly directions
Comments about Alvin Opal Drafting Table:
The product is made well but the directions for assembly were not clear and caused additional work when putting the table together.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This product works great for what I need it for. It was kind of difficult to put together considering I had to put my own holes in it and now it has multiple holes in it . I use it all the time and I love that I can adjust it to the height that I need it at..
Very satisfied with this purchase.

Delivered well ahead of expected date. Very good quality materials. Table is easy to assemble, adjust and use. Light enough to move around, but heavy enough to be stable. Caution: the holes in the template were 5/8 inch farther apart than the rear mounting flanges. After securing the flange on one side, I had to re-tap the holes on the other side. If I had it to do over, I would use the template to mark the holes for the front support braces and only one of the two rear flanges; install the braces and the one flange; then mark and tap the holes using the other flange as a template. It was a gift for my artist wife; she loves it!

Sturdy, durable, and flexible!
By Mark the Stand Up Guy
from United States
I use this daily as a standing desk for my computer. I was originally attracted to it after seeing others had used it successfully as a standing desk, and have been pleased myself with it as well.Putting it together was easy. The adjustments are a cinch. In fact, I've moved it up and down a few times now. I've had a couple of computer monitors on it (dual monitor setup) with several other things, a desktop phone, full size keyboard and mouse, and a computer. It held up and was sturdy. The only potential downside is if you don't have a sturdy computer monitor stand it might 'shake' a bit as the desk can be shakier than say, an oak desk with lots of weight. Not too bad though.

Biggest piece of junk...
from West Virginia
Do not waste your time here. We ordered 26 of these for my art classroom. They started falling apart the first week. Perfect example of shoddy workmanship. As a school we tried to get the tables replaced by Blick or Alvin and were asked to submit photos of the problems with the tables. We submitted the photos and were told it was just the way we put them together. The screws will not stay tightened. The tables are not tall enough. The nuts used to raise/lower the table do not line up correctly. The table top is a cheap particle board which the screws fall out of. If the tables are slightly moved the top falls off to the side of the table and is not level. Major problems with this product all around.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

My mother's new 'Pirate Table'
from Las Vegas
In all fairness, this probably would be a fairly solid table for the price, If not for some sloppy workmanship. Like the last reviewer, I likewise found the 'tablet' for screwing the table-board to the base completely off the mark. Not a huge-deal if you're willing to just make your own measurements/corrections. But aside from that, I also found that the left cross-leg on the table I received had been soldered on a bit higher than the one on the right.. causing it to raise-up off the ground a good bit from the rest no matter what you did. It's a good thing then that the front 'feet' were adjustable, as because of that, I had to lower the left foot considerably to make up for what ended up being a seemingly 'shorter' leg. That worked.. but now gave the table the appearance of having a 'peg leg'. After all that, on a completely flat-hard surface - It was pretty 'solid' and didn't shake much at all. I was still tempted to return it due the uneven workmanship, but ended up just giving it to my mother.. as she didn't mind so much having a 'pirate table'. To close.. while the problem I had with the leg being off may be a random fluke and others may have better luck.. I would still be leery of 'recommending' this particular table.

[...] The only complaint, or observation, I have is the template for drilling holes to mount the legs of the drawing table. The template was off. I followed the instructions; checked them twice before marking the screw holes. I drilled a very shallow starting hole so I could screw the legs in place. The one side was fine, but the other side was off considerably. I could not bend the bracket to line it up with the holes, so I had to mark the screw holes with the bracket in place. Everything resolved itself, but someone at the factory ought to perform a quality check on the template included with the drawing table.
