Great mechanical pencil!
By Bill in Mantua
from Mantua, OH
Comments about Alvin Draf/Tec Pencils:
I prefer mechanical pencils for a variety of reasons and have used one for almost 40 years for everything except carpentry work. With a traditional mp I was always stabbing myself with the point. When I found the Alvin Draft-Tec Retrac my problems were solved. I buy several at a time and always have one in reserve in case I lose one. Good value, well made, never wears out. I wouldn't use anything else even if you gave it to me!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Would buy again!
from Turlock, CA
Bought for business and ended up buying more for pleasure! Wonderful texture, simply the best hues; top notch. A bit watery at times, but just give it a squeeze and it distributes just fine! Definitely intend to buy more in the future.

Yasumoto I Miss You,!
By Wood Sculptor

I would pay triple the price if they would make a pencil with a retractable barrel like the ones Yasumoto once made. Those really made sense .. .. Instead Alvin just keeps making the "Same Old Thing"

Alvvin Draf/Tec Pencil
I am a pencil artist and find that this pencil is great for fine detail and because of the retractable tip, I don't have to worry about it getting bent or broken when traveling. its a nice weight as well. which makes a difference to me. so far I haven't found anything that I don't like about this pencil.I would say it's one of the best!

Budget & Function
By The Pencil Snob
I bought this for working math problems, taking notes, and sketching. The first thing I noticed was the light weight. It feels durable. The textured rubber grip is secure. The advancement of the lead is positive, but a little stiff. The retractable tip is "pocket safe". The tip is not cushioned. The operation of this pencil is like the classic, but discontinued, Pilot H1005; however, the Draft/Tec does not operate as smoothly, and has noticeable wobble in the tip. This is a good pencil for traveling. It is "pocket safe", and you won't cry if you lose it, or break it. Some pencils I try, but lose interest. The Alvin Draftec is a pencil that loses my interest.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Better than Alvin's draft/matic
from New York, ny
I have benn using alvin's draft matic 0.3mm for year now. I lost the last one I bought and decided to go with the cheaper draft-tech version. This pencil is better in that it is light weight, better looking than the yellow colored .3 draft matic, and it does not waste as much lead as the more expensive version. I am indifferent about the retractable head because sometimes all you want is for the pen to push the lead out but instead it retracts the pencil point (kind of annoying when you're between leads and have to push 10 times to feed another one out). Lastly, it takes less time to feed a new lead than the draft matic version.
An excellent value

I have been using a .3mm version of this pencil for about 3 years now. I use it every day to fill out forms with tiny spaces. It is still going strong. It is more durable and trouble-free than any .3mm pencil I have ever owned, including pencils costing over three times as much.(I have been using a.3mm pencil for about 15 years.)The retractable tip is a real blessing, especially at .3mm.If this item does have a downside, it is the print, which wore off so that I had a hard time finding another one!
My new standard pencil
Bought this on a whim after getting tired of subpar mechanical pencils. Great quality, good lead-to-grip distance, and a comfortable but firm grip. I don't stab my pencils into the pavement or anything, but the retractable tip feature is neat for those who might move around with their supplies.

I like the way aesthetics of the pen, and how easy it is handled. I love the pen. I recommend buying in blick
Great so far
from edina, mn
So I just got this pencil today from one of the local stores. I have to say with the retractable tip and the way the lead pushing works I am already falling in love with this pencil. Only real complaint is that the eraser refills I purchased are too long for it's short holder.
