Ordered after I sliced my thumb while cutting some art paper w/ an X-Acto knife & an aluminum yard stick. The finger guard is a real appendage saver. An added bonus is the felt pad underside that holds the ruler in place, preventing it from moving when you're trying to make precise cuts.

This is second one I own - first bought several years ago - left in shop in my Maine home so I ordered a second for South Carolina - surprised that it was more expensive than the first but can't do without it. Non-skid base makes tearing heavy (300 gm) print paper fairly easy - white on black marking are super easy to read. The steel insert allows me to cut paper without damaging the edge. When the new one was shipped, it was sandwiched between two flat sheets of cardboard and bent. A new one was shipped in a heavy tube (as was the first) and arrived promptly. Could be heavier - a solid steel version is the ideal that I was looking for when I found this ruler. It works.

I will no longer be cutting parts of fingers off with the little ledge. Very well made. A quality piece. I am probably going to get another one. A friend of mine recommended it to me and my only regret is not getting one sooner.

Maybe I'll stop trying to cut my fingertips off -- this is a great, stable straightedge. Has some good weight to it, stays put while you're cutting. The 24" ruler is great - long enough to trim the smaller posters.
