Akua Intaglio soy-based permanent inks are a non-toxic, environmentally safe way to do printmaking.
Formatted for intaglio, they can also be applied with a brayer for relief, monotype, and collagraph printmaking techniques. Combine Akua Intaglio Ink with Solarplate for a completely waterbased intaglio process.
Akua ink has a rich, thick consistency with minimal dryer and cleans up easily with soap and water.
Print from plastic, wood, linoleum, or metal plates. You don’t need any special ventilation, toxic solvents, or fireproof containers.
8-Color Sampler Pack
Colors include Hansa Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Crimson Red, Red Oxide, Carbon Black, Titanium White, Phthalo Green, and Phthalo Blue. Jars are 59 ml (2 oz).
Metallic Gold and Silver Inks
Use Akua Intaglio Metallic Gold and Silver Inks when you want to add high shine or a subtle sheen. They’re ideal for monotype, intaglio, and relief printmaking. The metallic colors will appear different depending on the viewing angle. They can be used alone or mixed with other Akua Intaglio or Akua Kolors to create copper, bronze, and other new colors. A small amount added to the ink will increase the opacity without causing a shiny effect.
Color Chart Note — Use this color chart as an approximation of the real color. If exact color matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.

Non toxic alternative
By art educator
from Northern CA.
OK..Printmaking inks for an alternative non-toxic solution for educational institution. It is versatile for monotype, intaglio, and relief processes. Has good open time and can re-use. Clean up is non toxic but leaves the tools sticky if not properly cleaned. Long drying time for the prints. Of course, can not compare to oil based inks...but is doable as an alternative. Pricey if not purchased on a sale. Positive: the great support for the product...how to demos online, use of modifiers, etc.
Leaky ink jar
By Nancy Drigotas
from Tucson AZ
The Akua carbon black jar was leaking in transit. Not too bad but enough to make a small mess. Other than that all is well.

Non-toxic and easy to clean up
By Printing Granny
from Salt Lake City
I've been using Akua since my first printmaking class. It's easy to use, easy to clean, and doesn't dry up, so if I leave a project unfinished, I can use the same ink the next day with no problem. I use baby wipes or baby oil to clean up. It works especially well with the Akua Wiping cloth, which is my new favorite accessory.
Great inks for art and enviornment
from Lawrence, KS
My middle school students love using and mixing their own colors with these environmentally-friendly inks during an extensive intaglio etching unit. Great coverage, ease of use, and non-toxic clean up make them ideal for use in the classroom.
OK printing with soybased inks
from coastal Texas
I bought AKUA intaglio inks to use on Softkut blocks because I dislike water based inks. After trying out AKUA intaglio inks for the first time, I am very pleased. Pigment is strong, inks are odorless, and drying time on paper prints was probably 20 min. max. I can't see any disadvantage of them (compared to the oil based inks I am used to using on my woodcut prints). Also, when I tried to smear the ink on dry prints, I couldn't! Completely satisfied.

an excellent ink but the jury is still out...
from burlington, vt
The ink has many great features but color saturation seems to be slightly lacking
Akua Intaglio ink combines artist-grade pigments in a soy-based binder creating a permanent ink that is non-toxic and environmentally safe. No special ventilation, toxic solvents, or fireproof containers needed! It cleans with soap and water. And colors are intense and bright.
