You had better be good at puzzles. I just put this easel together without the useless instructions.
The parts are not labeled, the pictures in the instructions are blurry and very dark, and the directions are vague.
Look at the photo on the box and figure out the parts and their orientation.
If you are not good at these kinds of things....move on to another product or you'd better have a handy/ carpentry-minded friend.

Well made, great design, a winner! Many are having problems building it. If you lay it out on a table you can see the "bones". Remember to put the back slider piece on before you secure the side pieces, you will not be able to do so later. The two blocks of wood with the brass "s" bends are for the two front-facing side arms to level a large canvas, separate them and attach them at 9 and 3 o'clock. The other puzzlement people had was the two brass plates with 2 pins. They go behind the two thumb screws on the center slider piece. They must be put on BEFORE assembly, especially the back thumb screw for height adjustment. Good luck, be patient, dry fit first and don't use glue...just in case!

ok - FIRST THE FLAT BRASS PLATES go into the top canvass holder BEHIND the wood upright ( where the tighten nut goes !! - these plates tighten up the canvas holder when you turn the BLACK KNOB on the BACK !! - it's a PRESSURE PLATE !!

- ok now my problem is this - I have it all together and I have a "block" of wood with the spring loaded screws leftover - HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO PUT IT ?????

Despite this worthless instructions - it's a decent easel

I didn't know what to expect. When it was finally put together, all I could say was: "Beautiful."
The easel became a decorative furniture that incited me to redecorate my living room, and holds a beautiful oriental painting I just completed. In a couple of minutes I am about to use it for what I initially purchased it for. I can't wait. I feel like a child with a shiny new bike.

Standard delivery was quick, 2 days! Purchased based on price and seemed most reviewers were satisfied with the quality once assembled. Reviewers' tips, MFR instructions AND some time & patience helped. It was not too difficult to assemble and I am very satisfied with the quality of the easel.
1st tip: "…lay everything out on the floor and study the picture on box. Makes perfect sense once everything is out of packaging." (I also labeled the wooden parts as listed on front page of instructions.)
2nd tip: "…make sure the large barrel nut-Hardware [C]-is seated in the [2] Canvas/Brush Tray before you start following the instructions. Also make sure that you can access the set screw in the barrel nut through the tool tray." (Note: Remove the little screw piece inside the barrel nut[C] with [A] wrench. The little screw piece will be used in Step4)
Other tips: Remove the long screw with the washer & wing nut from the [3] Upper Cross Bar before following instructions.
In Step 1, I mistakenly attached the [2]Tray to the back leg of the [1]Center Ratcher Post instead of the front post with the metal. Also, when attaching the U piece to back of Tray, make note of angle cut inside the U.

This easel looks really nice. im only using it right now to display a painting since Im having trouble finding time to paint, but the easel is nice. Yes the instructions are terrible. You cant really see the pictures, and Im pretty sure the directions are out of order in more than one step. But Im no Bob the Builder and I was able to figure the thing out. I build it in half an hour by myself. But the wood is nice, it looks great, and I like how it adjusts as well. Its perfect for me and its a great first easel!

The easel should be fine (I haven't used it much yet but I played with the adjustments and it seems pretty versatile). Getting it built, however, was not so easy. First the instructions are a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy...and so the illustrations are pretty much useless. Second, there was a piece missing (the pin to hold the hinge). Without the pin the easel is uselss. So I got out the wire cutters and used a hanger to fashion a pin. It's working but the illegible instructions and the missing piece were a bit disappointing and made putting it together way more challenging than it needed to be.

Easy to put together, though the instructions were a little hard to follow. Easel folds for easy storage and is easily adjustable for various size canvases.

The directions are worthless. It's a wonder dickblick doesn't come up with something better. I had to go to my local store and look at the easel on display. The directions are confusing if you follow them in the order they appear. The two blocks with the brass clips(not in the directions) are to be placed under the tray to keep it level or at least that's what I use them for. The other two brass plates are for some kind of decoration, I am guessing. Not the best easel but for me it is just fine all things considered.

Easel is sturdy however, getting it together is ridiculous the instruction are awful, there are to little gold pieces left over and I have no ideal where they belong. Once I got it together (which I did myself with no help from the instructions) the easel seemed to be a good item.
