Comments about Activa Plus Clay:
I am using this clay to duplicate bones of a Dragon Skeleton, and am quite amazed at its versatility! It is a great clay that can be dried at 200 degrees in about 30 minutes. Quite amazing!!

Nice clay for details
from Amarillo, Texas
Nice clay for details. Only problem clay is shrinkage, if you put the clay around a firm armature expect the clay to crack.

I use this clay to make clay mosaics. Roll it, carve it and paint it. It is very resilient and dries to a hard clay finish. Changed my art world.

I've commented on this clay before. As an air dry clay, it's a dependable product and has a very good feel and working texture to it. Can't get too thin with it as it can be brittle. Better to keep at least 1/2 inch or more thickness. Also handles paint very well. Dries fairly quickly depending on the thickness.

Great Clay - after some practice!
from Southwest Florida
Like food reviews, everyone has a completely experience at the same location! So it is with Activa Clay. I'm a professional illustrator that also dabbles in sculptural pieces. Tried many different air dry clays and this is the best thus far. The more time spent with this material the better to become familiar with some of it's shortcomings. Mostly I work with the white which has a great feel to it and is easy to sculpt with. The black seems mushier and doesn't hold form as well. Haven't worked with the terra cotta. This clay DOES crack. Cracks occur when using filler like styrofoam (don't use it!) or metal armature. I believe this is because the clay DOES shrink a little bit as it dries around a non porous substance. One workaround on this for me has been to sculpt the art on a slick surface like Saran Wrap that is taped down. Once you are finished sculpting, release the tape and the plastic wrap will be able to move a bit as the art dries. I use porous armatures like wood toothpicks or popsicle sticks and this supports the art with little or no cracking. Avoid super thin areas as this clay is too brittle for that. Thicker is better, stronger. Cracks can be filled with more clay after the piece has dried but with experience, you can avoid getting those cracks. I've created and sold quite a few sculpture with this clay and found it to be very good medium to work with. Like any other art medium, it takes practice and patience to understand the limitations of what you are working with.

Excellent Air Dry Clay
By Studio Girl
from Pompano Beach, FL
I have used many air dry clays and this is by far the best. My students have created all types of projects, from bust sculptures, to slab constructed houses, to simple pinch pots. This clay looks great painted with acrylics or watercolors with a high gloss glaze. Students still have pieces they made five years ago with this clay.

good to make jewelry
from Thousand Oaks
I was reluctant after reading few reviews to make jewelry from plus terracotta clay. The packaging does not clearly say for how long this needs to be air dried. I did get some help from their website totorial though. I used water to wet my fingers and conditioned with bare hands. Later shaped it to my need and oven baked for 20 min at 275 degree Fahrenheit. The result was amazing. Few minutes later pained it with acrylic paint.

Started drying/hardening/crumbling in my hands in the first few minutes I started working with it. Very difficult to work with. So next project, I tried working with damp hands to keep it from drying while I was working; it continued to dry and I could not shape it without deep cracks/crevices forming in it as I was working. Might as well have thrown the money I spent on it in the trash.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I should have read the other reviews before starting my project. I sculpted a large figure with broad wings, and found that the clay DID crack in several areas. I was able to repair the cracks by adding new clay and smoothing it out, and the finished clay was very hard and I was able to sand it to the detail I needed, after an additional week of work. It does continue to dry and the wings did crumble apart in areas, and I have had to repair many pieces to get a workable piece... Wish that there was a better air dry clay...
