Ben Caldwell's artwork is FANTASTIC and for $7 you won't find anything better! Since buying this book I've found myself seeking out everything with his name on it. The thing I like most in this book is his simplification of a comic book style that brings the word "cartoon" back to comics and illustration. Cartoon, as in caricature, i. e. pushing poses and expressions to really emphasize the intended feeling of an image. I think posing, especially, tends to get forgotten in a lot of comics and illustrations. Once you've read this one I would also highly recommend his other book, Fantasy Cartooning. It's very much a continuation of this book and it elaborates on more ornate detailing and how to go into more detail without muddying up the image.

I would Highly recommend this for beginners (and young ones especially) because it's really about simplifying thing down to the basics and expressing things as clearly as possible. Plus Ben caldwell's art style is really fun to look at.

I would also recommend it to more experienced people looking to get into a more exaggerated, cartoony, almost animated aesthetic. Plus Ben caldwell's art style is really fun to look at.
