Torn Paper Pictures Lesson Plan

This project lets students work without scissors. Here they create an image by tearing paper into shapes instead of cutting. Students learn to rely on their abilities instead of only on their tools.

Grade Levels
Grades 3 through 8.

Time Required
Up to three class periods (45 - 60 minutes a period).

Lesson Objectives
To develop and promote an awareness of shape through tearing paper instead of cutting.
|
|
Procedure
- Sketch an image on a sheet of background paper.
- Tear shapes from colored paper that correspond to the shapes in the sketch.
- Glue the torn pieces to the appropriate areas of the image.
|
|
Assessment
Each image should be clearly defined. Torn pieces can be freely rendered. Check gluing, placement, and overall neatness.
