Texture Critters Lesson Plan
This project lets students explore simple shapes and textures.
They draw an outline shape of an animal, then fill it in with as
many textures as they can think of.
Grade Levels
Grades 3 through 8.
Time Required
Up to three class periods (45 - 60 minutes a period).
Lesson Objectives
To develop and promote an awareness of shape and texture.
Procedure
- Sketch an image on a sheet of paper and trace over it with a black
marker. The black marker can be done after the animal is filled in
because it may smudge if it is waterbased. Permanent markers should
not be used with younger students.
- Fill in the critter with as many different textures as the
student can imagine.
- Make a colorful outline around the critter.
Assessment
Each image should be clearly defined. Textures should fill the entire
image and should be varied in their variety and complexity.
