Procedure
- Clean the glass (or tile) surface with rubbing alcohol.
- Place the pattern under the glass sheet (enlarge the size of the pattern to
fit the glass).
- Fig. 1 With the Ink Black Outliner #66, outline the pattern.
- Allow to dry for about 1-2 hours.
- Fig. 2 Paint the sky: Place a generous dollop of blue and white paint on
the palette. Drop the brush into the white color and paint several sections,
paint strokes all in the same direction. Next, drop the brush into the blue
paint and paint some of the strokes (again in the same direction). Finally,
drop the brush into blue and add a bit of white then paint some strokes.
Repeat this process in each of the different sections to give the appearance
of different shades of colors. Leave a space unpainted of about 1/2" around
the entire cat.
- Fig. 3 The cat: Place a dollop of yellow and green on your palette. The
cat’s head, half of the body and the tail are painted with a mixture of these
colors (yellow and green). The rest of is body is pure green. Around the
entire cat is another mixture (2/3 yellow and 1/3 green).
- Fig. 4 The house: Place large dollops of red and yellow on your palette.
Follow the same technique as used for the sky by mixing additional shades
(mix yellow and red). Paint some of the brush strokes in a vertical fashion
and some in a horizontal fashion. Also, add a few strokes in each section of
pure red, and some in pure yellow.
- Fig. 5 The cloud: Place a dollop of both white and mauve on the palette.
Paint the clouds with all mauve and then drop the brush into the white to
add a quick brush stroke in an interesting design at the bottom of the cloud.

Helpful Hints
IMPORTANT: PAINT EACH OF THE SECTIONS ONE AT A TIME. DO
NOT TRY TO GO BACK OVER IT TO CHANGE IT ONCE PAINT IS DRY.
PAINT WILL "PULL OFF."
If you are unhappy with the results in a particular section, simply remove
the color and start over.
- Use masking tape to cover the edges of the glass for safety and remove
prior to baking.
- If there is a mistake, the paint may be removed at any time until it has
been baked. Glass cleaner or rubbing alcohol works best.
- It’s a good idea to keep paper towels and cotton swabs available for
repairs during painting.
- Brush and tools may be cleaned with soap and water. Porcelaine 160 is
waterbased and water-soluble. If it spills, simply wash it out of fabric with
soap and water.
- Please use an oven thermometer to determine oven temperature as
many ovens are often incorrectly calibrated. Paint will burn and brown if
it is too hot!
- For more opaque colors, paint several coats of color — allowing each coat
to dry for about 20 minutes in between.
- For more pastel shades of color, add Porcelaine 150 Gloss Medium
(02908-0003, page 59) to the color (1/3 Gloss Medium to 1/3 color). This
will also act as an extender.
- To thin the paint, you may add up to 10% water. But adding more could
lessen the durability of the paint once baked. There is a Porcelaine 150
thinner available if you should need it (02908-1103 on our website).
- All colors may be mixed and blended with one another.
