Procedure
Lesson 1:
- Experiment on the plan paper with different words. Love, Mom, joy, etc. are good choices. Remember, you will not be able to read the words when you are finished. It is the design that the words make that will be beautiful. It is important to repeat the same word over and over.
- Students begin to write on the larger square of paper. Do not start in pencil and plan to go over it. Just start writing with a good pen. Relax and have fun because no one will see any mistakes!
- Put names lightly in pencil on clean side.
Lesson 2:
- Origami is the art of folding paper into a great variety of things. Show some examples.
- We will be making a box. Box directions in any Origami book are fine. Fold the smaller piece first. Teacher does each step with the students, and makes sure everyone has completed it successfully before continuing to a new step. The older grades 6-8 can then complete the top of the box on their own.
- Put names on the bottom of the box in pencil.
