Procedure
- Read and discuss Pop Art with the students by using the "Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artist" series of Andy Warhol.
- Share the prints and/or slides of Pop artists like Peter Max, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Claus Oldenberg, and Jasper Johns, and discuss each of the Pop Art styles.
- Use Peter Max book to share pictures and ideas he has with the students.
- Before they get started on their ties, have the students trace a pattern tie on the tag and white drawing paper.
- Cut the tag ties out but use the white paper as a thumb sketch of what they are going to place on their ties.
- Color code all the parts of their thumb sketches.
- Begin with the background colors first. If it is one color, just have the student trace the shape of the tie on it. Then cut and glue it to the tag. If the background has more than one color, the teacher needs to lay it out for them and direct them in how to cut it out.
- They will begin to cut out the pieces to their ties. Make sure they draw their parts on the white side of the Fadeless paper. (Demonstrate how to make any lettering backwards on the paper.)
