Baroque Art examines the intersections of art, power, royalty, and the Roman Catholic Church, focusing on figures including Bernini; the emperors, kings, and princes of Europe; and in particular Louis XIV, with his palace and gardens of Versailles. Rococo Art shows how the ornamental form of the rocaille became the leitmotiv, giving the epoch its name, and how the world of salons, festivities, and make-believe came to be reflected in the pictures of leading artists such as Watteau and Boucher.
