These oil pastels are perfect for older or more advanced students. They are intense in color and particularly soft and pleasant to use, not just on paper and board but also on wood or earthenware.
Color Swatches created using heavy to light application and were applied on 100 lb (163 gsm) drawing paper material.
Fe2O2 or Fe2O3 • H2O
Mars Orange is a bright, extremely light red and appears almost pinkish when contrasted with darker colors. It has incredible tinting strength and opacity. The synthetic form of Mars Orange is made from iron oxides and is cleaner, brighter, and denser than its ochre-based counterparts.
Mars Orange has good permanence and lightfastness.
Mars Orange has no significant hazards.
The word Mars refers to the Roman god of iron and war. Mars Orange has been manufactured as a pigment since the 17th century.
Mars Brown has similar general properties to the pure red oxides, and it is often a mix of synthetic forms of oxides such as PY42, PR101, and PBk11. Its tinting strength is low, and it dries quickly. Hues vary based on manufacturer.
Mars Brown has excellent permanence and lightfastness, with outstanding resistance to chemicals, heat, and weather.
Mars Brown is not considered toxic, although care should be taken not to breathe its dust.

Graphite is a crystaline form of pure carbon that occurs naturally, and has been used to create pencils. It contains no lead. The most famous deposit is near Borrowdale, in England.
