Blick is proud to offer its line of professional, artist-grade oil colors. Every color is formulated using the finest hand-ground pigments. Highly pigmented, they offer artists a luminous satin finish and dense, buttery feel.
Color Swatch created using heavy application/medium application/50% tint and was applied on acrylic primed canvas (7 oz) material.
In large oil paint lines, there are often two shades of Cobalt Blue, sometimes named Cobalt Blue and Cobalt Blue Deep. Whereas Cobalt Blue is generally based on the pigment PB28 (cobalt aluminium oxide), Cobalt Blue Deep is often based on PB72 (cobalt zinc aluminate). Blick Artist Oils contain a single Cobalt Blue, based on pigment PB72, equivalent to Cobalt Blue Deep in many other brands.

Cobalt salts are extremely lightfast and temperature stable.
Cobalt salts are toxic.
Since the discovery of processes for mining and purefying Cobalt Blue (PB28) in the 19th century, additional processes for manufacturing and purifying other cobalt salts have become available. Their use as artist pigments has followed.
