Color Description
The historic color Indian Yellow, a metabolite of cows that were fed only Mango leaves, was produced by harvesting the urine of cows. Manufacture of Indian Yellow, which is now considered cruelty to animals, has been prohibited since the early 20th century. All modern Indian Yellow hues are efforts to reproduce the traditional hue using synthetic pigments. Schmincke's Indian Yellow does so with two transparent organic pigments. The company rates its Indian Yellow as transparent and semi-staining, giving it 4 stars out of 5 for lightfastness.
