What is “Crossing for Cancer”?
|
Scott Glazier is an artist and Blick customer. He is riding his bicycle from Los Angeles to Chicago to raise awareness for Pancreatic Cancer.
He will also be raising money for research through The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, an organization that is the national leader in the quest to defeat this disease.
Scott’s motivation and inspiration come from his mother, Bonnie, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2007 and died this spring. As a company, we want to help Scott reach his $50,000 goal to help find a cure for this disease.

How Blick is Helping
|
During his 2½-month ride, Scott will be visiting some of Blick’s retail stores to showcase his art in person by doing on-site sketches.
He also will be discussing the disease, its effects on patients and families, and how critical private donations are to funding research and awareness programs.

Blick is working closely with Scott during his journey in the following ways...
- By providing him with the art supplies needed to create his portraits.
- By matching the donations of Blick employees, families, and friends, up to $50,000.
- Howard Metzenberg, Blick’s Internet Strategist and a member of the company’s board of directors, is joining Scott on the St. Louis to Galesburg portion of his ride and coordinating a group of Blick cyclists to join Scott on the final leg of his trip from Galesburg to Chicago.
- By hosting events at Blick locations along the way:
- August 15 — Scott begins his ride from our Pasadena store.
- August 25 — Scott participates in a "meet, greet, and inform" session, along with an art demonstration, at our Las Vegas store.
- October 15 — Scott does another “meet, greet, and inform” session and art demonstration at our St. Louis store.
- October 21 — our Galesburg facilities welcome Scott to Illinois and sponsor a "Blick Walk for Pancreatic Cancer".
- October 28 — our Chicago-area employees participate in a “Crossing for Cancer Bowling Night".
- October 30 — Scott concludes his ride at our Chicago Loop store.
